Mike Skinner – Toyota Tundra Racing - Post Race Report
Race: Toyota Tundra Milwaukee 200 (Race 11 of 25) - Track: The Milwaukee Mile
Date: Friday, June 22, 2007 - Started: First - Finished: Fourth - Laps Completed: 200
Total Laps: 200 - NCTS Points: First

Mike Skinner and his Toyota Tundra team headed to The Milwaukee Mile with high expectations. The most success Skinner had at the track in years past was a pole and victory in 1995, and he wanted to return to that form in 2007.

Frustrated and struggling in the first practice session Friday morning, Skinner and his No. 5 crew changed everything they could on the truck. They finally got things going their way during the final practice session and rose to third on the final speed chart. 07mw2.JPG (119579 bytes)

With a great qualifying draw, Skinner put down a blistering lap of 29.463 seconds. It was good enough for his second pole position at Milwaukee and his seventh pole this season.

Skinner began pulling away from the field upon the start of the race, and he retained the lead under a long green flag run.

Skinner pitted with the rest of the field after the caution flag waved on lap 68. His four-tire stop included an air pressure adjustment, and he restarted in the lead on lap 72.

He held his position well and led the first 103 laps of the 200-lap race. Skinner lost the lead to Bill Davis Racing teammate Johnny Benson on lap 104.

Another caution flag waved on lap 159, and Skinner pitted for four tires, fuel and another air pressure adjustment. He restarted fourth on lap 165 and remained in that position when the checkered flag waved. It was Skinner’s best Milwaukee finish since 1995 and marked his ninth top-five finish and 11th top-10 finish this season.

Skinner continues to lead the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Championship standings as the series heads to Memphis (Tenn.) Motorsports Park next weekend. The race will be televised on SPEED Saturday, June 30.
