Bill Davis Racing Event Preview
Race/Date: Kroger 250 – October 20, 2007
Location: Martinsville Speedway – Martinsville, V.A.
· This week’s race truck for Martinsville Speedway is Chassis No. 5-76. This is the same truck Skinner ran in March at Martinsville when he captured the pole and the race win earlier this year.
* Stats… Skinner leads the series in a number of categories. He has the top marks in Driver Rating (117.2), Average Running Position (5.7), Fastest Laps Run (398), Laps in the Top 15 (3,047 of 3,306) and Laps Led (970 laps, 1087.89 miles).
· Martinsville Stats… Earlier in March, Skinner took the pole and won the race at Martinsville’s half-mile track. With nine starts here, Skinner has accumulated four top-fives and seven top-10s. Look for him to dominate once again this weekend.
· Pole Record… Look for Skinner to try and capture his 42nd career pole, as he looks to tie his (1995) season record of 10 poles in a single season this weekend in Martinsville.
* Fighting For Points … Skinner and Ron Hornaday, Jr. have traded positions leading the points for the last few weeks. Skinner is now second in the NCTS points, but only a mere 14 points out of the lead with just five races to go.
* Home Sweet Home… Jeff Hensley, Skinner’s crew chief for the last three years actually resides in Ridgeway, Va. Born and raised near Martinsville Speedway, Hensley is looking to win for the second time this year at the Martinsville track.
* Going Back Home… Kevin Riddle was born and raised in Martinsville, Va. Still residing in Martinsville, Riddle grew up as a fan of NASCAR and went to the speedway on his weekends off. Now working on the No. 5 Toyota Tundra as the rear tire catch man, Riddle hopes for a victory at his hometown track.
* Tested and Approved… Skinner and his No. 5 Toyota Tundra crew, along with son Dustin Skinner spent some time last week preparing for Martinsville during a test session at New Smyrna Speedway in Florida.
* Listen and watch … The Kroger 250 is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. ET Saturday, October 20. It will broadcast on the Speed Channel (TV), MRN (radio) and Sirius Satellite Radio (Ch. 128).
Mike Skinner’s Racing Quotes:
Mike Skinner on racing at Martinsville Speedway:
“I am looking forward to Martinsville. We just came off of a good test session in New Smyrna and I am excited about this weekend. We got the pole and won here in March, so hopefully we can run well again here. We need to get back to consistent top-five finishes and we will be just fine.”
