Mike and I are honored to SHOUT we will be celebrating our 5th Annual Toyota Skinner Round Up. In under five years we have managed to raise over a half of a million dollars right here in Volusia County!
We say it every year, but this shin dig really does just continue to grow because of our partners like Toyota Racing and community leaders Rue & Ziffra, Brighthouse Networks, Halifax Health, and our amazing board of volunteers that put in countless hours to pull off one heck of a two day Round Up every spring. In the fall of 2010 we lost a dear and beloved friend. Jim Hunter was more than a executive for NASCAR living in the Daytona Beach area, he was a loved icon in our sport who dedicated his love for NASCAR to many of us in the NASCAR garage. More importantly, he was our friend who we went to for advice, support, laughter and strokes on the golf course – so it was more than appropriate to celebrate our 5th annual event in the name of Jim Hunter.
"Jim Hunter was one of NASCAR's giants," said NASCAR chairman Brian France." For more than 40 years Jim was part of NASCAR and its history. He loved the sport, but loved the people even more. It seems as if everyone in the sport called him a friend -Jim will forever be missed by the NASCAR community."
"Jim was a uniquely talented man that cannot be replaced," NASCAR President Mike Helton said. "He was a great friend and mentor to so many in the sport. His influence will remain with and be carried on by so many of the people he touched "
Hunter helped shape NASCAR's image during its mid-2000s popularity boom, but his influence went well beyond media relations. On a personal side, Jim shaped Mike Skinner to be a great competitor on and off the race track and golf course. More importantly he was one of Mike’s best friends and mentor. He helped me to understand the sport of NASCAR racing using his great wit, charm and endearing comments to always keep me on my toes and grow as a better person all around.
